Artists 4 Life in the Sound have renamed Sprague Ave 'Defiance Way,' and request that future maps throughout the city be printed, 'Sprague / Defiance Way' in consideration of the steadfast spirits holding solid to the lives we love. Such is done in the historical spirit of Tacomans past and present that have renamed their streets and neighborhoods to better reflect the essential character of its people, our ways and our environs.
Follow Defiance Way / Sprague Ave, from Hwy 16, and take it conveniently to Point Defiance Park via 6th Ave. While there, consider a visit to the fabulous Antique Sandwich Company and on the way catch a cup of coffee or food.
Right Now - and for the very long foreseeable future, it is an indelible factor of our life and times that individuals and families in the Pacific Northwest would largely prefer to support the local businesses and individuals conserving and promoting our life loving Northwest ways -
And they will, once a) They are made aware that the better options exist and b) Access to these businesses and the goods and services they provide is facilitated in a way that requires little or no disturbance to their everyday routine. It is the purpose of this Guide to effect exactly that kind of awareness and facilitation.
The Guide was originally published in 2011, it was in a PDF format, and its final edition is here. The Guide went online in February of 2012, originally published in burgundy text.
For these good reasons and many more, Tacoma's Outsider's Guide was developed.

The 702-acre Point Defiance Park is a favorite place to enjoy natural forest, saltwater beaches, rhododendron gardens, trails and spectacular views. This is perhaps the most popular place for locals to escape into nature - there are miles and miles of trails to enjoy, and a zoo with aquarium are great for adults and children alike.
Also at Point Defiance is Fort Nisqually, a living history museum where volunteers and staff, in period clothing, demonstrate the crafts of the 19th century and engage visitors in historic dialogue during the Living History Days and other events throughout the year.
Northwest life offers many benefits over mainstream ways and our independent small business community provides these ways of life in a manner the national mainstream economy will never be able or inclined to do.
